How is copyright law different from patent, trademark, or trade secret law?

Copyright protects creative works, such as books, drawings, photographs, songs, and movies. A utility patent protects new inventions or processes. Neither copyright nor patent law protects ideas, but copyright might protect the way in which ideas are creatively expressed. A trademark protects words, phrases, symbols, or designs identifying the source of the goods or services of one party and distinguishing them from those of others.
